A 23-year-old driver had a lucky escape last Thursday (22nd November) when her car flipped over after aquaplaning on the A466 between Redbrook and Bigsweir Bridge.

Gloucestershire Police received a call at 10.45pm after witnesses who saw Llandogo woman Lottie Dixon crash, travelled further up the valley to be within mobile phone signal reach in order to call the emergancy services.

Ambulance and fire crews also attended the scene, as did Gwent Police, and Lottie was released from the car by 11.05pm.

"I've sustained superficial injuries and had an incredibly lucky escape," said Lottie.

"I was travelling home from Monmouth when I hit fast moving deep water and aquaplaned, drove up the side opposite to the river and ended up on my roof diagonally across the road."

"I'd like to thank the lovely lady with a dog also called Lottie who was first to get there (I can't remember your name, sorry!) and also the people in the car which drove on up the valley enough to get mobile signal to ring the emergency services and then returned to let us know they were on their way.

"Fire, police and the ambulance service RRV arrived incrediby quickly and were all very efficient at making the road passable to traffic again. George the paramedic deserves a special thank you for putting up with me talking rubbish at him all the way to Neville Hall.

I'm very grateful to all who stopped and it is reassuring to know that people are willing to get out of their cars in the rain and help."

Lottie is urging all drivers using this particular stretch of road to take care in wet weather, after reports of other accidents in recent days.

The road is now closed due to a landslip. Monmouthshire County Council engineers are predicting that the road will be closed for the remainder of the week.

The slip on the B4235 is now open but down to one lane and controlled with traffic lights.

The R94; Llanishen to Tintern Cross, Trellech Grange – near The Fountain Inn is still closed.
