MADAM,
Yet again the boy employed to deliver the free newspapers has just dumped them - two lots in the hedge along the Osbaston Road, one lot in Beaufort Road and another pile by the stream near Lancaster Way.
I rang the relevant newspapers to report it then thought the best deterrent would be a word from the police. I wasn't suggesting he should be hung, drawn and quartered, just given a verbal warning that, apart from the dishonesty, littering is an offence.
The response from the Police Station was that they are not allowed to warn people nowadays - a formal charge must be made and everything must go through the proper channels. Obviously discipline went out with commonsense!
Does anyone have nay suggestions how to cope with the litter problem in Monmouth? Does anyone really care? If so, please write your views and suggestions in to The Beacon.

Editor's note: The papers were collected the same day after telephone calls from Monmouth Police and Mrs Hill, said Inspector Peter Davies.
