The litter on Chippenham was one of the matters town councillors debated on Monday night (August 1st) and praised the Beacon for highlighting the problem.
The matter had deteriorated since the summer holidays had begun and police had been trying to monitor the situation, but no prosecutions had been made as it was difficult to prove a litter offence.
General parking on the Sports Ground, although contained well for a two week period, had also lapsed, not helped by an "overflow car park" Highways sign which was misleading.
It was agreed to write to both Highways and the Sports Association and ask to keep matters under more control.
Monmouth Cemetery problems will be discussed at a public meeting to be arranged about the lack of burial space in the town.
They were aware there was a need for a new site as no burials had taken place in the town for over a year so they had a "moral responsibility" to sort out the issue.
The cabinet member with appropriate responsibility was invited and the meeting would be announced as soon as he confirmed attendance.
