AN inspiring life story written by a Kingcoed man has raised £400 for St David's Hospice.

John Hanner's book, 'My Work Was Love Made Visible', follows his personal travels around the world where he worked as a tree surgeon.

Mr Hanner has worked in Nepal, Finland, Rome, Japan and several other countries including Iran when it was at war with Iraq.

The book has been so popular that more copies are being developed by Clark's printers.

The 80-year-old was motivated to write his story after his nephew Graham Barrett sadly passed away of a terminal illness in January 2014. "He was a fantastic boy" said John, "he showed such courage and took everything on the chin.

"After his funeral I thought I could make a book to raise money for charity.

"This book has been a great vehicle to say how much family, friends and neighbours mean to me.

"The response I've received reflects what I think of the generosity of people."

Mr Hanner, who says he always looks for the best in people, hopes his story will be read by his great-grandchildren in the future, so they can understand more about the life he led.

John's book can be purchased from Lindwalls newsagents, Usk.
