A MONMOUTH teenager has been selected to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games in October.
At 17, Lewis Oliva will be the youngest member of the 17-strong cycling squad in Delhi and will be under the guidance of Olympic gold medallist Nicole Cooke and Tour de France rider Geraint Thomas.
Lewis, from Devauden, specialises in track sprinting, following in the footsteps of Sir Chris Hoy, who he trains regularly with at the Manchester velodrome.
The call-up is great news for Lewis, as only four weeks ago he suffered a serious accident in training.
Thanks to expert help from staff at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, he is well on the way to recovery.
The selection caps off a great season for Lewis, as he is also off to Italy to represent Great Britain at the World Junior Track Championships in August and to St Petersburg for the European Track Championships in September.
