SIR,
Rumours have been circulating that the Royal British Legion is about to close.
The facts are that, in my opinion, an unreasonable demand was made on the club by way of a new lease.
Due to the professional way in which the club's committee has negotiated with the trustees of the RBL in London, the threat has now been resolved.
I would urge all members to rejoin, or at least to attend the AGM at the club next Sunday (27th January) at 11am, so that you may evaluate the true facts.
It is a fact that many legion clubs are closing throughout the country through lack of membership.
Let us not forget why the branches and clubs of the Royal British Legion exist.
We at the branch deal with many deserving ex-service personnel each year.
The club offers a friendly environment for ex-service and non ex-service members to enjoy.
We at the club and branch need your support.
Let us not be the first to fail those who have never failed us.
Gerry Bright
(Chairman, RBL Monmouth Branch)
