The reconstruction of a long lost section of historic promenade pathway in one of Monmouth's hidden gems has been completed.

Two interpretation boards have also been installed in the Nelson Garden, behind Monnow Street.

The aim is to increase public enjoyment of the garden with the help of grants from Monmouthshire County Council, Monmouth Town Council and New Grove Trust.

The grants were all secured for the Nelson Garden Trust by Penny and Grahame Thomas, who head the volunteers upon whose practical efforts they rely to keep the garden attractive and in good health.

With the new path completed, the walk around the garden can once again be enjoyed as it would have been in Victorian times.

The interpretation boards, designed by Platform One of Monmouth with expert advice from Sue Miles, Helena Gerrish and Monmouth Archaeology, provide a long-awaited focus to give better understanding of the Nelson connection and the rest of the multi-layered history of the site.
