THE Kymin, a popular site for both walkers and picnickers, provides inspiration and fascination for local people and visitors alike.

The Round House is a constant landmark, visible for miles around, while the light and atmosphere on the hilltop changes continually through the days and seasons. It provides spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and the Brecon Beacons.

The site, epitomising everything Georgian, was very much part of the Picturesque movement.

The Naval Temple, visited by Nelson and Emma Hamilton, is a poignant reminder of Britain’s naval heritage. It was lovingly restored four years ago, including a beautiful painting of Nelson’s victory at ‘The Battle of the Nile’ and the grounds are open free to everyone all year round.

The site is owned and managed by the National Trust, who are in the process of producing a conservation management plan to help plan for the future of the site.

It is looking for input from local people to the consultation process. To this end there is going to be an informal consultation day at Monmouth Museum on Saturday 18th February between 11am and 4pm.

People are welcome to attend and share stories about the Kymin, family connections, old photos, or historical memorabilia.
