SIR,
We all know that some misleading statements are made at election times. These can often worry people who are not aware of the facts.
The land was not put forward as a candidate site nor was it put forward as an alternative site in the Local Development Plan. It has never been supported as a housing site.
Can I also clarify that while the total number of new homes in Monmouthshire was agreed nationally it was the decision of Monmouthshire County Council alone as to where those houses were to be built.
They could have all been built in the south of the county, where there are jobs, road, rail and the other necessary infrastructure.
The only county councillor representing Monmouth who voted for the LDP in which the 400 new houses were proposed to be built on Wonastow Road was cabinet member Liz Hackett-Pain.
