At a presentation held at the Rugby Club, the committee of the now defunct Monmouth Lads Club
distributed the remaining funds to local sport and youth groups who had responded to a request printed in the Beacon.
Everyone present was welcomed by the president, Malcolm Butcher before handing over to Chairman Terry Cleaves, who gave an outline of the 30 year existence and ethos of the Lads Club, before inviting the recipient clubs to give a report of their own aims, achievements and needs.
The representatives of Monmouth Off-street Project, Monmouth Life-saving Club, the Trampoline Club, Monmouth Town Football Club, the Junior Rugby Club, Rockfield Rovers, Monmouth Musical Youth Theatre and Monmouth Football all spoke well and there was great support for the diversity of activities on offer to the approximate 1,000 young people who belong to these groups.
After the formal handing over of cheques, refreshments were kindly provided by the Rugby Club which concluded a very pleasant evening tinged with many happy memories.
