Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls finished the lacrosse season ranked in the top four in the UK having competed at the National Lacrosse Tournament at Sherborne School, moving up from Division 1 to the prestigious Premier Division. Forty-eight teams attend this hotly contested event where schools compete to gain a place in the Premier Division. Last year, HMSG was successful in topping the First Division but was delighted to reach the Premier Division in 2008. Riding on the back of such a successful season, the girls embarked on their tour to America. Combining sightseeing in Washington, with playing lacrosse in a park opposite the White House, the team set off for their first match in Annapolis and to meet their host families. The girls won two of their three matches, even beating Severna Park All Stars, the State champions. The team then moved on to Philadelphia where they won their local match. Their final match was played at Allenstown between Philadelphia and New York, where they again finished on a high winning 10-5. The girls then took a well earned break taking in all the famous sights of New York, including a 'Knicks' game. They all agreed that the tour had been a fantastic experience, giving life-long memories. Winning four out of five matches in a country which had just won the World Cup and begins playing lacrosse in primary school, gave the team a real sense of pride. The Under 12 team are showing similar promise, being undefeated in friendly matches and winning the South Wales Rally by beating Cheltenham Ladies College, Moreton Hall, and Howells School, Cardiff. All seven teams have played outstanding lacrosse and are looking forward to the 2008 – 9 season.
