More than 50 customers of Monmouthshire Care & Repair attended a party at Llandogo Millennium Hall recently to help celebrate the agency's 10th anniversary.

Party goers enjoyed dancing, Tai Chi, knitting, computer classes and received advice on the importance of a healthy diet and exercise.

Care & Repair delivers advice and services that help to improve the safety, security, comfort and independence of older people. Since it opened in 1998 more than 6,000 older people have been helped by improvements, repairs and adaptations being made to their homes.

John Davies, aged 79, and his wife Eunice, aged 76, were invited to the party after having hand rails and bathroom adaptations completed by Care & Repair.

Mr Davies said: "I've had a hip and two knee replacements and, although I like to keep active, I've found that the home adaptations they did really have helped and it was all ready for me when I left hospital.

They then came and visited a couple of weeks later to make sure I was happy with the work. You can't fault the service we had from them."

Care & Repair Monmouthshire Manager Shona Martin said: "As the number of older people in the population increases, measures that keep people safe, healthy and independent in their homes will become even more vital."

Wendy Bourton OBE Chief Executive of Care and Repair Cymru was also at the event. She praised the staff of the Monmouthshire agency: "They are a team that truly cares about their clients and seeing the passion and dedication they employ is quite moving."

Melin Homes is a host to Care & Repair Monmouthshire and the organisation's job is to ensure that they can carry on doing their beneficial work in the community.

Funding for the day came through Melin Homes, Care & Repair and Monmouthshire County Council. Melin's Head of Housing for Monmouthshire Ian Bakewell said: "The sheer number of people Care & Repair touches is amazing."
