SIR, Reference the 27th August Beacon article about problems of access for disabled people in Monmouth. I would like to point out that if the group of disabled people had taken the bus from Monnow Vale to the library rather than trying to walk through town, they would have reached their destination easily. Also, wheelchairs are stable up to angles of 45 degrees so should be able to cope with Monnow Street. And if you trip on loose paving, at least you can claim compensation. I have been disabled for nearly 70 years and I don't do 'poor me', nor expect the council to subsidise my existance, but I make the best of my limited ability. Why do the council cut off street lighting in dangerous areas to save money and then waste it on this? Adrian Powdrill (Monmouth)
