Sir,
My mother was recently lucky to escape serious injury when her car was written off on Blestium Street as another driver drove straight out of the junction near the entrance and exit to Waitrose car park.
This is not the first time that there has been an accident or near miss at this junction, where drivers often seem to presume that cars will be entering Waitrose and that they therefore have carte blanche to ignore the 'Give Way' line.
I am able to recall several occasions where I have almost been the victim of such an accident here.
In order to try to improve safety at this busy junction, I have therefore written to the member of Monmouthshire County Council responsible for Highways, Councillor SB Jones, and ward Councillor Alan Wintle suggesting improved signage or a potential 'STOP' line, and would encourage any of your readers with similar concerns to do the same.
