A Llandenny teenager is raising £1,500 for the children's ward that helped to save his sight.
Josh Williams was diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) in October last year, a condition that affects one in 100,000 people and can lead to permanent blindness.
Now he is taking on a 35-mile trek to say thanks.
The 14-year-old had been suffering from severe headaches and blurred vision when he booked in to see optometrist Helen Tilley at Monnow Eyecare.
"I had just told him to take some paracetamol, get some fresh air and get off the X-box," said mum Diana.
