John Kyrle has been described by Ofsted as "an outstanding school and Sixth Form Centre." Following an inspection in January, the school was praised as being "vibrant and dynamic."  Students were said to be "extremely polite, friendly and have very positive attitudes to their learning"   Behaviour in lessons and around the school was noted as "exemplary." In addition to meeting with groups of students, staff, the Chair of Governors, Karen Frost, and observing lessons, the inspection team analysed several hundred parental questionnaires returned to the school prior to the visit. Ofsted commented that, "Parents praise the school very highly." Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, said that the whole of the school community was delighted with the report and would now use the findings as a springboard to further developments.  He said his aim was to move from school improvement to school transformation over the coming years. Mr Griffiths paid tribute to his own staff and also to John Kyrle's Primary School partners.  He has written to every school thanking them for the excellent work they do in preparing their students so well for life at High School.  Mr Griffiths said, "This is a very challenging time for many of our primary school partners with issues about school review exercising their thoughts.  I hope they will all enjoy reading our Ofsted report and take much deserved credit for their pivotal role in John Kyrle's current development and exciting future." Ofsted praised the Headteacher's vision of a school where students are there to "learn and to achieve" and noted students and parents commented on the "many fine and enthusiastic teachers at the school." A key focus area for the inspection was John Kyrle's status as the first Herefordshire school to achieve both multi-specialism and High Performing Specialist School status.   Ofsted felt, "The school provides an excellent curriculum which is broad, balanced and innovative." The Sixth Form Centre at John Kyrle was deemed outstanding in every aspect as a "well respected place of study" and it was noted that students and parents believe it to be "the best" and feel "very proud and privileged" to be there. The school has been asked to continue its focus on raising further the performance of boys in English and to aim for greater consistency in written feedback on marked work.  The school's Senior Leadership Team will be drawing up an action plan to address these issues and will share ideas with staff and governors. Every student at John Kyrle has been sent a letter by the Ofsted team stating "It is a delight to write to you and say how impressed we were with you and your school.  You show great pride in the school and rightly so...........We, like you, think it is an outstanding school"  The school has sent copies of the full report to all parents thanking them for their support.  Mr Griffiths said that the report now "raises the bar" in what parents and students can expect from the school and vice versa.  He added "A key feature of our success in achieving outstanding status is our work in partnership with students, governors, staff, parents and the wider community.  With Ofsted validating our accomplishments in 2008 the sky is the limit for JKHS in the years ahead.  The move from "Good to Great" is well under way!"
