A Monmouth man, already jailed for burgling two houses, has had his sentence extended for assaulting his own grandmother.
Marcus Williams admitted the assault when he appeared before Cwmbran magistrates via a video link from Cardiff Prison last Thursday (27th June).
The Beacon reported last week how the 21-year-old stole several items including a laptop, camera and jewellery from a home in Goldwire Lane, Monmouth, on Tuesday 28th May.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for that offence as well as the burglary of a house in Raglan he had asked to be taken into account.
It was later on 28th May that the assault took place at the Monmouth home of Williams's grandmother Judith Dorrington.
Mrs Dorrington had returned home to find items Williams had taken in the burglary and confronted her grandson, only to be pinned against a wall and punched in a sustained attack.
Defending, Nathan Jones said Williams had not committed an act of violence since 2007, and "certainly not against his grandmother".
"This is a one-off incident, it is very unpleasant and unfortunate but it won't be repeated," said Mr Jones.
Williams was sentenced to four months in prison by magistrates to run consecutively at the end of his current sentence.
The bench also imposed a restraining order which prevents Williams from visiting Mrs Dorrington at her home, work or from entering Brook Estate, Brook Crescent, Wheatfield Close or Rolls Avenue in Monmouth.
