SIR,

I am currently compiling a non-fiction book about the unusual occupations of people in all parts of Wales, especially in rural areas.

I have heard an interesting tale about an old man who was employed in a police training scheme several years ago. It seems that he was required to potter along the old Raglan Road somewhere between Mitchel Troy and Dingestow in his red Maestro pretending to be either drunk, incapable and whatever else, wandering over the central white line and narrowly missing plummeting into roadside ditches.

Several police officers, in their vehicle, would supposedly observe, apprehend and deal with this character accordingly.

Is this true? Does anyone have recollections of such an unusual working arrangement? Is the old man himself still out there somewhere waiting to tell his story?

I would love to hear from anyone who might be able to enlighten me. Please write to the Beacon or myself or call me on 07583127796.
