Sir,

In response to A. Oke's letter 'Pet Warning' concerning the adoption of lurchers and greyhounds, I would like to respond.

Last Christmas we adopted a two year old greyhound and we have had nothing but pleasure from him. He is a loyal, biddable and charming companion; his enviable good looks are only matched by his gentle and fun loving nature!

Like many popular and prolific breeds, greyhounds are essentially hunters but Buddy is easy to control and we most certainly see no need for the extreme measure of a muzzle.

He regularly comes into contact with young children (even toddlers!), particularly when he is enjoying a jaunt around Monmouth town centre on a busy Saturday.

My sympathy to A Oke and the cat but it is unfair and uncalled for to condemn these wonderful dogs by one unfortunate incident.

Greyhounds desperately need and deserve to be rehomed within loving and responsible families.

I would (and frequently do) highly recommend them to anybody seeking to give a good dog a home!
