Ross Town made the longest away trip of the season in the League, to Kington Town, on Saturday and chalked up an impressive 5 - 0 win, maintaining their unbeaten league run. Ross had a full squad to choose from, with Ben Timmins returning from suspension, and Ainsley Jones available. Ross started well, playing excellent, flowing football, and allowed Kington hardly a kick. After fifteen minutes, they deservedly went ahead. Paul Burnham, (fresh from having his proposal of marriage to Vicki accepted), latched on to a weak kick from the Kington keeper, and played the ball to Justin Halfpenny who kicked an unstoppable drive into the top corner of the net from 20 yards. Ross continued the pressure on the home defence, and Halfpenny almost doubled the lead with another ferocious shot that went just wide. The pressure paid off when a move from the training ground brought goal two. Burnham took a corner kick and played the ball across the edge of the box to captain Spud Jenkins who blasted the ball into the net. Just before half time, Town went further ahead. Again, Burnham was involved, he played the ball to the ever-improving Lee Walker who skinned the last defender, reached the goal-line and squared a delightful ball across the face of the goal for Halfpenny to convert his second. Ross came out for the second half determined to build on the impressive first half performance. Manager Adam Bridges brought on Mark Parnham in place of the impressive Halfpenny, and for a while Ross struggled to regain their dominance. Kington began to dominate for a while, but the defence of Jones Burford and Morgan stood strong and defied all Kington could throw at them. Ross still looked dangerous on the break, with Parnham and Stuart both going close. When it looked as though Town's goal-scoring had dried up, another set piece, a free kick from Burnham, allowed Mark Parnham, out-jumping his marker at the back post, to head powerfully home. Almost directly from the restart, Ben Timmins, who had replaced Jenkins, floated a free kick into the box and Liam 'Pedro' Parry lashed the ball home to complete the scoring. This win keeps the Ross unbeaten league record intact. Next Saturday Town are away to local rivals Weston, kick-off 2.30 pm. Mighty 8's Man of the Match award went to Paul Burnham for an excellent all-round display.
