SIR,

I am writing to commend the people of Monmouth for the tribute paid to Jamie Gunn and his family on the sad occasion of the funeral of this gallant young man.

The silence as the cortege passed by was evocative of the emotions felt by the many people massed in tribute.

We often hear it said by the older generation "the young of today couldn't do what we did."

Jamie and many more have proved they can and have.

Rest in peace Jamie.
