IR, The European elections are about to be held. I reflected on something I experienced a year ago when I was short-listed by the Labour Party as a Welsh European candidate for this years European election. I was asked by the panel if I supported a referendum. I said "yes, because the majority of people want one". Afterwards I asked the general secretary for feedback. My email was ignored. This experience coupled with the procedure more generally led me to believe that the selection of candidates was inadequate. I am also aware that there is no clear political program for the direction of Europe. Candidates are unable to make realistic commitments to the public. Although I tend to believe that British interests will be served better within the union, it is time to let us have our say. Politicians who try to sidestep the issue are sending a clear signal. It is this. We know better than you so leave it to us. I will vote for the party which I think will offer the people of this country a referendum. That is because I believe in democracy.
