FORMER Raglan Scout Master Maurice Matthews was among the hundreds of people who crowded into Monmouth Comprehensive School on Sunday for the filming of the popular BBC2 antiques programme Flog It!

Maurice, who now lives in Monmouth, caught presenter Paul Martin's eye with his colourful Scout neckerchief, which was decorated with nearly 200 badges.

He collected the badges while on a three month holiday in Australia in the early 1970s during which he visited various Scout units and was given badges from each.

"When I came home I asked the local Guides if they would sew them on my neck tie," he said.

Maurice, whose son David was Scout Leader at Raglan, ran the Raglan Scouts for 15 years, initially with the late Lewis Gwatkin. He will be featured in the programme when it is televised as part of the seventh series next summer.

Delighted by the enthusiastic crowd at Monmouth, Paul Martin said: "It's a fantastic turn out" while production management assistant , Kim Cox, added: "We never know how many people will turn up so we were pleased it was quite busy."

One of the most valuable items to be brought along was a pocket globe, dated 1818, which was valued between £800 and £1,200, while a Guinness lamp with its original shade and in very good condition was one of the more unusual items.

Both will be auctioned at the Anthenion Auctions, Glamorgan on Wednesday 18th March 2009.
