The seventh annual Brecon Monmouth Canal Walk takes place this Sunday, and there has been a terrific response from walkers from all over Wales. Already over eleven hundred walkers have registered to take part in this most picturesque of walks which has stunning views of the Beacons. There will be entertainment all the way with bands and groups at pubs and inns along the routes supporting and encouraging the hundreds of walkers. There are several walks available to suit all abilities: On the North route there's a 12-mile walk starting from Theatre Brynich, Canal Basin and a 5-mile walk starting at Henderson Hall, Talybont Village. The South route has a 20-mile walk which starts at the Visitor Centre at Goytre Wharf, and the 10-mile walk begins at the Bridgend Inn, Govlin at 2.00pm. All routes finish at the Llangynidr Community Centre – and then the fun really begins! There will be an end of Walk Music Festival Party, which starts at 3.00pm and goes on until 10.00pm, featuring a wide range of food, drink and entertainment for people of all ages. Bands playing include: Serpentine Parade, Little Miss S, 6-Ton Budgie, D. J. Steve, Corrupt Contraband, Monkey and 4th Street Traffic. Entrance to the Party is free for walkers and children under15, otherwise its £5 for adults and £3 for concessions In the Pink was formed in Ebbw Vale in 2002 by six close friends, Liz Sullivan, Wendy Cahill, Carol Hancock, Jackie Evason, Brenda Shepherd and Shan Caron. Their six successful walks on the Brecon- Monmouth Canal have so far raised in excess of £500,000, and they hope their seventh on Sunday 18th May will continue this amazing success. Liz Sullivan of In the Pink said "The six previous Canal walks in Brecon have been great fun and fantastic fundraisers. Judging by the overwhelming response to this year's Canal walk it will be a Magnificent 7th!" Every single penny the walkers raise funds the In the Pink Research Team, based at Velindre Cancer Centre, and headed up by leading oncologist consultant Dr Peter Barrett Lee. The Research Team is growing in reputation and numbers. A member of the team, Dr Annabel Borley's work has achieved an AstraZeneca Clinical Scholars Award which has allowed her to present her research at the prestigious San Antonio Breast Symposium – a worldwide conference for breast cancer in Texas.
