A procession of colour and music heralded the arrival of the annual Monmouth carnival last Sunday (31st July).

Headed in traditional style by crews from Monmouth Fire Station, the parade included classic cars, motorcycles from the Royal British Legion Riders Branch and the Mana da Samba band, a community project from Ebbw Vale.

The entries snaked their way down Monnow Street, past the rides and stalls to the Blestium Street car park, where bouncy castles and other attractions were ready for the crowds.

The Carnival Group told the Beacon: "We were extremely pleased with the reception the Carnival received. It was brilliant to see the huge crowds and hear the very appreciative comments from both locals and those who had travelled a long way to see it. A really exciting day.

"It means that the volunteers on the Carnival Group and the Festival Committee, who worked in close partnership, feel it was all worth it."
