The Home Affairs Committee held a seminar in the Bridges Community Centre in Monmouth on Monday as part of its wide-ranging inquiry into policing in the 21st century.  Witnesses included Deputy Chief Constable Mick Giannasi, who  chaired the "Staying ahead" review of how Gwent Police can make the best use of resources to meet the challenges of contemporary policing, including through greater collaboration with other Welsh forces,. They spoke to the group of MPs, including local MP David TC Davies, on the themes of the review. The Committee also heard from Chief Superintendent Ian Johnston, President of the Police Superintendent's Association of England and Wales and formerly of Gwent Police,as well as seeking comments from an invited audience from the local police, Monmouthshire County Council, other partners agencies and residents leading Neighbourhood Watch schemes.  After the session the Members were taken for a private, secure demonstration of the use of Tasers. The local forces is part of a pilot rolling out the use of Tasers to non-firearms officers.
