A WYE Valley town’s main street was closed all night on Monday (June 2) due to a fire at the back of the shops.
Three fire appliances were sent to the incident in Ross-on-Wye High Street, which was reported to the emergency services at around 7.30pm.
A spokesperson for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they were dealing with an incident in the town’s High Street and that crews were deploying the main water jet to distinguish the blaze in an outbuilding, which was in a small structure used for storage.
Firecrews wearing breathing apparatus brought the blaze under control, with the incident finally closed around 1.45am next morning.
Neighbouring properties were inspected as hotspots were dampened down using a thermal imaging camera.
Elaine Westmacott posted on social media that the fire at the back of the shops wasn’t just a shed, it was her utility room.
She added: “A very grateful thanks to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service who responded so quickly to the fire at my property on Monday night.
They arrived about 7.45pm and left at 11pm. They then returned at 1am to douse more water on the smouldering timbers. Fantastic service. Thank you too to all the lovely neighbours who offered help.”
