Chepstow High Street will be pedestrianised on the fourth Saturday of every month, starting in March.
The town's council have announced the closures to enable a range of events to take place in town.
The hope is that more shoppers will be tempted in to use the high street. "Everyone benefits- the people of Chepstow, the shops and the traders," said a spokesperson of Chepstow Town Council.
"The recent Chepstow benchmarking survey has proven that footfall to the town increases by 11 per cent on market days, so this is undoubtedly a good thing for the town.
"Among the activities planned are farmers' markets, community events and street entertainment."
A reception with Mayor Stephanie Dovey will be held at the Drill Hall at 6pm on 11th March, to present these ideas to those present.
Wine will be served.
