A CLASH between rival biker gangs has been linked to the death of a 56-year-old man, murder investigation police say.

Anthony "Tony" Jones, from Brecon, died in hospital at the weekend following a violent disturbance just over the county border in Pontnewynydd, near Pontypool, last Thursday evening (August 6).

Firearms officers were deployed to deal with the incident in Mill Street around 7.15pm, which has since seen 10 men aged between 31 and 73 arrested.

Det Supt Laura Bartley said on Tuesday “At this stage of our enquiries, we believe the violent disorder involved members of two rival outlaw motorcycle clubs, the Vikings and the Hells Angels.

“Establishing the extent of involvement of those connected to the incident remains a key focus of the investigation.

"Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Thursday's incident, including the actions and movements of those involved before, during and after the disorder.”

On Monday, police also appealed for Anthony Paul Jones, 40, from Blaenavon, to come forward to help them with the investigation.

Officers are also looking for a blue Ford Transit van with the registration MA23 FLC that was reportedly involved in the disorder, and is believed to be missing its front lower nearside panel.

DS Bartley said police were "working around the clock" to identify those involved and "bring those responsible before the courts".

The family of the dead man are being supported by specially trained officers.

"Our thoughts remain with the family of the victim," she added.
