AS Wales gears up for the change in the organ donation consent system, a nationwide roadshow is being rolled out for members of the public to find out what heir choices are.

Coming to Waitrose in Monmouth on Friday 14th August from 2-5pm, Organ Donation Wales will be providing information on the upcoming changes.

Starting on Tuesday 1st December, residents living in Wales will automatically be registered on the organ donor’s database unless they specifically opt out.

Under the new system, if people have not registered a decision to become an organ donor (opted in) or a decision not to become an organ donor (opted out), they will be considered as having no objection to being an organ donor – this is known as deemed consent.

The roadshows aims to answer any questions people might have regarding the changes to the system and offer advice to those unsure as to what to do and talk through options.

Health and Social Services Minister Mark Drakeford said: “On 1st December, Wales will become the first country in the UK to introduce a soft opt-out system.

“We hope this will help save lives by transforming attitudes towards consent to organ donation.”
