A PLAYGROUP is celebrating after being the first in Monmouthshire to receive a top award for promoting health and wellbeing.
Llandogo Early Years is the first playgroup to successfully achieve all seven health aspects of the National Healthy and Sustainable Pre-School Scheme.
Launched in 2011, the Healthy and Sustainable Pre School Scheme was developed as an extension of the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme (WNHSS), which is run by Public Health Wales.
Playgroup Leader Rachel Davies said: “The healthy preschool scheme has made us think about what we already do and extend some ideas further.
“For example we have been using the outdoors all morning for Miss Daisy’s gardening, incorporating creativity and getting involved in national initiatives such as National Road Safety week which saw us involve the community speed watch volunteers”.
Emma Taylor, Healthy Pre-Schools officer, said: “I am so thrilled for the Llandogo Early Years and the children for receiving this well-deserved award.
“Staff support children to feel good about themselves and the choices they make. They enable children to experience fun and stimulating activities that support healthy choices.”
