Students from Haberdashers Monmouth School Augusta house Boarders took on a mud run for Cancer Research UK.
On May 3 a spirited group of year 12 boarders from Augusta House, accompanied by staff took part in the Cancer Research UK mud run in Cardiff, raising an impressive £2,676 for charity.
Their journey to the event was full of energy and camaraderie as they all travelled together by minibus, driven by Lucy, the school’s rowing coach.
In the weeks leading up to the event, the girls had been training after school, making the most of the fine weather to enjoy group runs around the school grounds.
Their preparation was not only physical it was emotional too. Everyone taking part had in some way been personally affected by cancer which added deep meaning to the day.
Before the race began, the event organisers gave a moving speech about the importance of cancer research and the lives it touches. The heartfelt words left many of the girls visibly emotional, further fuelling their motivation to run.
The morning was filled with excitement as the girls prepared in high spirits, by the end of the course, their outfits were replaced by layers of mud, smiles and a sense of accomplishment.
Laura Watkins, Augusta Boarding House Housemistress and Mathematics teacher said: “I am so proud of our girls efforts in raising an incredible amount of money for a very worthy cause.”
“We look forward to enjoying many more days out together over the rest of their time with us.”
Despite the physical challenge, the day was marked by laughter, teamwork and a shared commitment to a cause to their hearts.
This memorable event not only raised vital funds for Cancer Research UK but also brought the Augusta House community closer together in a meaningful and joyful way.
