WEARING a seat belt can be the difference between life and death in a crash says Gwent Police.

Wearing a seatbelt keeps you secure, reduces injury and protects you from being thrown from the vehicle.

Each year, on average, 651 people are killed or seriously injured due to not wearing a seat belt on UK roads.

If you’re caught travelling in a vehicle without wearing a seat belt you could be given a fixed notice of £100 on the spot.

While the driver is responsible for children aged up to 14, passengers over 14 are responsible for their own actions.

Passengers could be fined up to £100.
