COMEDIAN, broadcaster and author Griff Rhys Jones is to be a new patron of the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth.

Rhys Jones, who has performed twice at the Savoy, was announced as a patron of the theatre last week, joining fellow patrons Russell Grant, Julia Donaldson and Sir Tony Robinson.

Born in Cardiff in 1953, Rhys Jones has starred in a number of television series, and is well-known for his work on the BBC comedy sketch show Not the Nine O’Clock News.

He has performed twice at the Savoy and was so delighted with the reception on both occasions that he has agreed to form a more formal bond with the historic venue.

Chris Ryde, director of the Savoy said: “Griff is an absolute perfect fit as a patron because of his connections to Wales, his support for heritage (through his Restoration TV series) and of course because he is a top class entertainer.”
