FOR just a fleeting moment, it seemed Greg Pritchard, from Usk was about to achieve his lifelong ambition and get through to the final of Britain's Got Talent .
Despite the fact the judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan were not in total agreement about the song he chose, Freddie Mercury's Barcelona, the signs were still good.
Greg had given an amazing performance of the difficult song, which is known and sung worldwide.
However, not even Greg's great talent could overcome circumstances which only occur in live television.
The semi final of Britain's most popular talent show took place last Friday, with just two places left in Saturday's final.
Greg was due to perform last, with ten year old Hollie Steel singing earlier in the show.
To everyone's astonishment, the tiny singer broke down whilst singing Eidelweiss, from the Sound of Music.
The stunned audience watched, some in tears, as Hollie tried to complete her act, without success.
Presenters Ant and Dec tried to console her, but failed and finally Simon Cowell promised the youngster "Time will be found later in the show for you to sing".
And that was what happened. Hollie sang, followed by Greg, to complete the show.
The public were given their chance to vote and gave their backing to teenage dancer Aidan Davies.
Ant and Dec then announced that Greg and Hollie were in the shoot out, with the judges deciding who would have the final place in the final.
To the great disappointment of thousands of people in Usk and district, the judges chose Hollie - "the bravest girl in the world", according to Simon Cowell.
