THE Old Queen's Head is a step closer to becoming Chepstow's first micropub after being granted planning permission by Monmouthshire County Council.

Owner Glen Ellis, said: "Now all we need is the licence. We are in the middle of the 28 day public consultation, which finishes on the 26th February.

"After that, as long as there are no objections, we are hoping to be granted the licence.

"We are aiming to open in mid-March, I can't see it taking longer. We haven't got anything structural to do but we have to put in the beer lines and things.

The only objection to the tiny, one roomed pub so far was from the Conservative Club next door. "On reading the application and speaking to me, they withdrew their complaint and I think they are happy with having us next door." said Mr Ellis.

"I'm aiming for this to be the best place for people to come and drink real Welsh ale."
