Governors say the closure of Raglan Primary School's kitchen is in the "best interest" of the school and will ensure more money is spent on teaching.

Parents have reacted angrily to Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) decision to shut on-site facilities and transport pupils' meals from Deri View Primary in Abergaveny.

They are worried what effects the change will have on the quality of the food but governors say they are reluctantly backing the council's decision.

Dr Cheryl Morgan, chair of the Raglan School Governors, said: "The Raglan School Governors consider it vital that children have the opportunity to receive good quality school meals.

"We would prefer to continue to offer school meals prepared on site. But having examined the costs, practicalities and potential risks to the school we agreed that it would be in the best interests of the school for the kitchen to close and have meals cooked off site.

"This would, of course, be in accordance with legislation and we are confident that these meals would be of equal standard to those that were prepared on site."
