Goodrich 1st XI entertained Bartestree and Lugwardine 1st XI at The Avenue last Saturday (23rd July) in the top division of the GB Marches League.

For a change, the Goodrich skipper lost the toss and was asked to bat first.

The opening pair of S Griffiths and R Davies put on a quick 23 in four overs before they both fell in quick succession.

This brought together the two top batsmen, A Brown (72) and J O'Brien who put on 50 together before N Maddock replaced O'Brien and put on another 17 with Brown.

A Evans then joined Brown and put on 36 before Brown was eventually dismissed with the score on 127.

J Griffiths then joined Evans for a 24-run partnership, before a couple of quick wickets left Goodrich at 167 for nine.

This brought together M Bradford and R Bastable who pushed the score up to 190 before the final wicket fell.

Following a delicious tea, the Goodrich bowlers took centre stage and ripped out the Bartestree wickets with ease.

J O'Brien was the pick of the bowlers with five for 36 off his 12 overs with M Bradford picking up three wickets for 24 off his 12 overs.

R Davies then picked up the final two wickets.

D Robinson was the pick of the Bartestree batsmen with 28 not out from the total of 68 all out.

This victory keeps Goodrich in second place in the table and in line for an exciting final five league games of the season.
