THERE was a great start to the new season for Monnow swimmers.

Adam Ward has been selected to swim for Wales at a competition in Sheffield on October 19.

This is excellent news for such a small club and other members wish him the best of luck.

The club held an inter-club gala at the Boys School. It was well attended, with all swimmers from Monnow competing.

There were some fun races at the end of the day, with parents taking on the kids. After the gala, all swimmers were awarded medals.

Ten swimmers entered the David Hughes memorial aquathon, which consisted of a swim and a run. The swimmers were Sian Chapman, Ellie Clarke, Freya Johnson, Chrissy Russell, Josy Russell, Beccy Russell, Will Snowdon, Ross Haines, Huw Sparkes and Billy Trew.

They all did well and came away with two first places, three seconds and one third.
