The Julian Hodge Bank LWR Racing team is looking good as it nears the end of its first season.
Commenting on the team's progress Monmouth driver Lindsay Ward said that July had been disappointing with a race retirement, and a huge off at Castle Combe impacting the tyre wall at high speed during practice.
He said the retirement was just a faulty electronic component which left him stranded on the grid at the start of the race.
"The crash, on the other hand, was my fault, just trying too hard I got the - car out on to the rubber cobbles that build up on the outside of the track and became a passenger in a one way ride to the barrier, " he said. "I can tell you the sight of the barrier coming at you at 100 mph is fairly sobering but it does bear testament to the strength of the Lancia that I had nothing more than bruising from the race harness.
"Bob Brain Developments rebuilt the car and it was ready for the practice the following week, unfortunately we missed the race at Oulton Park on the weekend between the two practices."
August was a much better month with two finishes well inside the first half of the field at Combe and an excellent race at Thruxton were the team finished eighth overall and fourth in class.
"My impression of Thruxton was that of sheer speed, it is the fastest track in the country", said Lindsay.
"September has been excellent. We had a wonderful day's practice at Silverstone in preparation for next weekend's AutoItalia race setting times that should put us right up with the front runners.
"Last weekend saw the first wet race at Combe and the car seems to go very well in wet slippery conditions. Of the 38 runners we qualified sixth and finished sixth despite losing 14 places off the start line.
"The grid position saw a rivulet of water running under the car and I just could not get the car away when the lights turned to green. The car was so well set up for the wet conditions that the overtaking seemed fairly effortless, it's just a pity the race - could have been a bit longer."
