The Monmouth-based Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies has had an extremely busy year with some very bad cases of neglected equines taken into our care. We are now facing winter with hefty feed bills ahead.

To support our Winter Feed Appeal we are holding a Fund Raising Talk and Supper at Llanarth Village Hall on Monday 21st November at 7.30pm.

We are extremely fortunate that world renowned vet Rod Fisher, who travelled to Rio to look after our amazing Paralympic Dressage Team GB, has agreed to share his experiences of Rio, from preparing the horses to flying them to Rio and bringing them home safely with no less than team gold and six individual gold and four individual silver medals!

Usk-based farrier Haydn Price will also be sharing his time in Rio as lead farrier to Team GB Dressage and Show Jumping. This is a great opportunity to hear some of the ’behind the scenes’ stories of the much loved equine star Valegro and the amazing Nick Skelton and his Olympic gold.

Both talks will be illustrated with their personal photographs and recollections followed by a question and answer session. We are extremely privileged that both Rod Fisher and Haydn Price have agreed to support us in this way and do hope you will join us. Tickets cost £10 to include a light supper - which has been generously donated  - so every penny raised will go to our Winter Feed Appeal. Tickets are available from Abbey Vets in Abergavenny, Wye Valley Country Store in Monmouth or from SWHP telephoning 01600 750233.
