USK maintained its fabulous record in this year's Wales In Bloom competition, again winning gold.

A delighted John Evans, Chairman of Usk In Bloom, said: "We heard on Wednesday afternoon that Usk had won the large village class of Wales In Bloom again this year.

"The town was judged in early July and this year scored 174 points out of a possible 200, its highest ever score. This secured a gold award, the only gold awarded in Wales in 2009.

"These results reflect the support the Usk In Bloom committee have received this year from all sectors of the community."

There was good news for Raglan too, with the village again winning a silver gilt award.
