SIR,
Times are hard and everyone is struggling to make ends meet.
So what generosity of spirit was recently shown by a group of Monmouth cafe's, pubs and restaurants when they agreed to participate in a fundraising exercise for the world's poor.
On Friday 25th March, Super Soup lunches were held all over the UK to raise money for sustainable projects in the developing world.
Six venues took part; the Bridges Cafe, the Coach House, Henry's in Beaufort Court, Millbrook Tea Room, the Robin Hood pub and the Whole Earth in White Swan Court.
Their owners prepared plenty of soup and agreed to donate the profit from each bowl to Christian Aid.
The Christian Aid Committee publicised the event widely and the punters came and enjoyed a hearty bowl of soup, all in a good cause. More than £160 was raised.
Thank you, kind folk of Monmouth.
Thank you to those who supped and thank you to those restaurateurs. It was a truly heartwarming experience.
