Monmouthshire Council is looking to enhance the area of Monmouth near the Old Monnow Bridge.

In what it is calling the Gateway Monmouth Project, the authority has already appointed an architect and wants ideas as to how the area between the bridge and the cattle market car park can be enhanced.

Landscape architects Macgregor Smith are ready to develop designs for the site with the intention of submitting a planning application in the spring.

As part of the design process, there will be a number of ways that the town can get involved so that consensus is reached on the final proposal.

These include a young peoples' project with local schools and the Attik Youth Centre, regular meetings with local stakeholder organisations and a public exhibition of options planned for early February 2013.

To help get people thinking about the town centre site, the county council has provided a short questionnaire that can either be picked up from Debbie McCarty at the Central Monmouthshire One Stop Shop, by completing an online questionnaire at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GatewayMonmouthProject">www.surveymonkey.com/s/GatewayMonmouthProject or by following the project through twitter @gatewaymonmouth

The questionnaire asks people about the current role of the site and what should be provided for in the emerging designs.

The deadline for submitting completed questionnaires is Thursday 13th December.

The design study project is being funded by Monmouthshire County Council and the Rural Development Plan for Wales, 2007-2013 managed by Welsh Government.
