RESIDENTS of Chepstow’s Garden City celebrated the Big Lunch in style last weekend (3rd June), with a picnic at the Playing Field followed by planting a cherry tree as a memorial to a recently deceased neighbour and a clean-up of the telephone booth which is to be used for a defibrillator.

The Big Lunch, an initiative of Eden Project Communities, brings together streets and neighbourhoods to strengthen the sense of community. In Garden City, the Garden City Community Group holds regular events and is working on its next project, a sensory garden. Local resident Pam Robinson said: “It’s a real pleasure living in such a close-knit community, especially when you can combine a picnic in the sun with helping to bring about improvements”.
