Monmouth Town reserve side set off for a long trip to Dinas Powys on Saturday, with just 11 players – two of whom, Josh Butler and Rob Dumbell, were making their debuts.

The home side dominated the game in its early stages, as the makeshift Monmouth team started slowly, and Monmouth let in their early customary goal as the defence was caught on the hop.

The reaction to the setback was superb. A very on-form Craig Lewis smashed the ball in off the post; as the Town pressed forward, the ball broke to Dan Lane and he rifled in a left foot volley.

The second half got under way with Dinas pushing for an equaliser, but it was Monmouth who went further ahead with the award of a penalty after a push from a corner.
