THE completion date of nuisance roadworks has been pushed back yet again, meaning that work intended to take just four weeks looks likely to pass 10 months.

The roadworks on the B4293 road from Monmouth to Mitchel Troy began last August and since then traffic lights on the road have caused delays for motorists and issues for pedestrians. The work, which involves the installation of a new road-side retaining wall near the junction with the B4293 Trellech road was intended to last four weeks, but delays have meant that the estimated completion date is now 24th June.

According to a spokesperson from Monmouthshire County Council the completion date has been extended because of a delay in the installation of the vehicle restraint barrier without which the road cannot be opened up to two-way traffic.

In March of this year, the Beacon reported that the work would be completed on 8th April. The work was delayed when contractors made a mistake with the construction and had to correct the work. Since then, it had been predicted that the work would be completed on 30th May, with the road expected to re-open normally on 6th June. This, however, is not the case, and residents have expressed their frustration about the ongoing work.

It is hoped by council officials that the roadworks will be completed by 24th June, as there are plans for a cycling time trial that would pass through the road on 26th June.
