SIR On behalf of the Llandogo group of the Friends of Chernobyl Children, I would like to thank Monmouth Lads Football Club. We have been hosting a group of 12 children from Mogalev, near Minsk, for a month each year for the last five years, to give them some fun and experience of a different country and their immune systems a boost. We had become aware of how football mad (and talented) some of them were and approached the "Lads" to see if they could help us. Without any hesitation they offered some training, a full set of kit, and sponsorship of our entry as a team in a big under-12 tournament. The boys from Belarus enjoyed warm hospitality from both the lads themselves and the adults at a Monmouth training session. They then had a fantastic day playing as "FC Belarus" with 19 other teams at Mitcheldean, winning two of their games, and being presented with special medals for the team that had travelled the furthest! 99% of young people in Monmouth are a credit to the town. The time, energy and positive attitude of generous- hearted and committed individuals such as those who run organisations like Monmouth Lads must be a big factor contributing to this!
