Ross Town Football Club members held their end of season awards ceremony at the Hope and Anchor on Saturday. The evening included food, a disco and karaoke, which was an appropriate end to the season. After last year's disappointment when Ross Town withdrew from the Hellenic League after several disappointing seasons, this year they came back with a bang and were crowned Herefordshire League Division 1 champions after an exceptional run which saw them win 15 of their 18 games, losing only once and scoring 58 goals and conceding only 16. Next season they are promoted to the Premier League where they will be playing some very high grade opponents. Adam Bridges was appointed as the new manager of the 1st team at the beginning of the season and he got the side off to a great start. However in November due to work commitments Adam could no longer continue and the reins were passed to Dan Morris, who took on a player/manager role. This change of manager did not stop the team from pushing forward to claim the title. The successful squad was made up of an excellent group of local lads with several young players signing on at the start of the season to go along side the more experienced players. The team was led once again by captain Spud Jenkins who enjoyed an excellent year and pushed Justin Halfpenny all the way for the highly acclaimed golden boot. The team spirit was outstanding and who knows how well they could do next season in what will be a highly competitive Herefordshire Premier League. The main award of the evening for First Team Player of the season went to Casey Morgan. In his first season for the club Casey had an exceptional year at the centre of defence for Town and chipped in with several vital goals. Reserve Team Player of the year went to Ian Phillips, who showed that in his twilight years he can still keep up with the youngsters. Ross Town are always on the look out for any local talented players who are interested in playing next season, pre-season training is due to start in early June, if any players would like more details on next season or express an interest in playing please contact Manager Dan Morris on 07875249183 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected].
