The Fiveways junction is to be closed on Sundays, from January 27th, for work to be carried out intended to improve lane discipline and increase safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
The Herefordshire Council's Transportation Manager, John Colyer, told The Ross Gazette that the plans included some minor re-shaping of the kerb-lines and the installation of 'splitter' islands to improve lane discipline.
The aim is to make the junction easier for motorists, while also making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Order is for a period not exceeding 18 months, or until the works are completed. However, it is expected that it will only be operative between 6 am and 6 pm for four consecutive Sundays.
The Council's suggested alternative route for those affected by the proposal is via the A40 trunk road, the B4260 Gloucester Road, Alton Road, and Alton Street.
